Articles 14 and 15 of the Directive 2012/19/EU require the identification of electronic devices with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin. This symbol indicates that the equipment must not be disposed into the regular household waste stream.
In conjunction with the crossed out wheeled bin a bar is used. This bar indicates that the equipment has been placed onto the market after the 13th August 2005. The marking shall be accessible, durable, legible and indelible. The exigencies are defined by the Norm EN 50419.
The marking with the crossed-out wheeled bin is mandatory for B2C devices. If B2B devices are not marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin, treatment facilities have to be informed about the sales data by a different means on the product.
